The 60th anniversary of the Barbie Dreamhouse Simon's Collectibles

The 60th anniversary of the Barbie Dreamhouse

It was the year 1962 and Barbie was finally getting her very own Dream House, years before women were allowed to own their own homes. The imaginative play the Dreamhouse has inspired has led to countless houses for barbie and her friends, special projects, dolls, and even a cartoon tv series.

This year, to mark the 60th anniversary of this legendary doll house, Mattel has partenered up with Habitat for Humanity International and will undertake 60 projects and activations, including new construction, home preservation, and neighborhood revitalization, for families in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing around the world.

Part of this year long partnership, Mattel will help build houses in Canada, Poland, and Brazil. In adition to this, Mattel employees will have the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) on builds throughout 2022, including a new home that will be built in Los Angeles near Mattel’s global headquarters.

This year's campaign will be named Barbie Dreamhouse: 60 Years of Giving Dreams a Home and it will celebrate unique anniversary activations to come throughout the year.

How fun is that! I hope they have some kind of special Barbie house release – I know they’ve released 2 or 3 Reproductions of the original Barbie house already, so I imagine that they won’t have that again this year. Would be cool to have a Barbie house that you ‘build’ yourself, in a different way than just assembling like others, like maybe they sell a box of house parts that the child can ‘design’ and put together, like snap together, and re-design/re-build over and over. That would be great for budding architects and other creative types.
