American Girl Historical Character AddyKeep your love alive in the face of hate and fear

Living on a plantation during the time of slavery, Addy Walker and her family must take life-threatening risks to gain the freedom they deserve.

When the fear that Addy could be sold away from her family arises, she and her mother escape north to Philadelphia where African Americans are free. But when she is judged by everything from the quality of her clothes to the color of her skin, Addy discovers her new life is still filled with prejudice.

Days become brighter when Addy goes to school for the first time and learns how to read and write. But the afternoons and nights remain lonely without her father, brother, and sister by her side. Although she may be slowly adjusting to her new life, Addy worries and wonders if there is anything she can do to reunite with her family.
